St. Stephen Parish Council is consulted by St. Albans District Council on all planning applications within the Parish Council area.
The Planning Committee meets once a month to consider and comment on every planning application. As with all Parish Council meetings, members of the press and public are welcome to attend.
In the majority of cases there is no objection to applications. Any concerns or objections are passed back to St. Albans District Council and are taken into consideration by their Planning Officers and Planning Committee when decisions are taken. In cases that, in the view of the Parish, could have an impact on the local community for various reasons, the application can be ‘called in’. In such cases instead of the individual Planning Officer determining the outcome of the application, that decision is determined by the Plans South Committee at St. Albans District Council.
Plans for current and recent planning applications within the Parish may be viewed in person at the Parish Centre, during opening hours or by appointment outside those hours or at the District council offices by appointment, as well as online via the St Albans District Council website. Copyright law and planning regulations mean we cannot make copies, but all of the documentation can be reviewed and notes taken. If you are interested in a specific planning application and wish to attend the meeting where that is going to be considered, please contact the Parish Council. We will be able to advise if the application has been received and when it will be considered by the Planning Committee. St. Albans District Council also provides information on obtaining planning permission and the planning process.
The Planning Committee may also express a view on wider planning matters, such as the Local Development Framework, East of England Plan and other large scale developments for example the Strategic Rail Freight Interchange at the old Radlett Airfield in Park Street.
