This committee was set up to oversee the handover of the management of Park Street Recreation Ground, and once that had been achieved, to oversee its continued management and the implementation of the council’s plans and aspirations. The committee consists of 5 councillors – please see Councillors. This small committee has achieved a lot in the short time that it has been in operation. Following an open meeting with the various sporting clubs that use the ground, the local residents, the Village Sports Club, and Park Street C of E Junior School and Nursery, it was pleased to find that it had the support of those organisations and individuals. At the meeting it was stressed that the planned improvements and alterations would not happen overnight and that a degree of patience was needed before the medium and long term plans could be implemented. As directed by the Main Council, the committee is determined that the ground is for the use by all for leisure, pleasure and relaxation.
As a result of a lot of hard work by our Grounds team and the handyman, big improvements have already been made. We were also lucky to have been the recipients of community work by the staff of ‘Orchid Inns’ who are based at the Park Mill, Park Street. They constructed a triangular raised flower bed at the footpath entrance and planted it with roses and evergreen shrubs, that has greatly enhanced the area. They also painted the children’s play area equipment and placed three tubs of plants inside the play area.
The Council hopes that more work of this nature will go on and that other local businesses will make similar contributions.
