Following a recent proposal to change the Abbey Line into a Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) Scheme and serious reliability issues on the line, the Parish Council has welcomed the news that the Network Rail and Hertfordshire County Council have agreed to develop options for improvement of the line.
Park Street Parish Councillor Nicholas Tyndale, commented:
“The service provided recently by London Midland’s unreliable Class 319 trains has been appalling, but there is now light at the end of the tunnel for the Abbey Line with the County Council and Network Rail’s confirmation that they are to undertake further development of options for improvement of the service.”
The Transport Secretary, Watford MP Richard Harrington, announced that Network Rail and Hertfordshire County Council have agreed to ‘…. undertake further development of options for a 30 minute frequency ….’ on the Abbey Line. This news will come as a great relief to all the line’s users following HCC’s proposals in its Draft Rail Strategy earlier this year to convert the line to a BRT and a recent spate of cancellations on the line due to unreliable rolling stock.
