The Green Flag Award® scheme is the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces in the UK. The awards recognise well managed parks and open spaces for all to enjoy. All applications are judged against eight key criteria:
- A welcoming place
- Healthy, safe and secure
- Clean and well maintained
- Conservation and heritage
- Community involvement
Greenwood Park has lived up to its name, being awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award for 2015/16, recognising it as being amongst the best parks in the country. This follows on from its previous successes in 2012/3 and 2013/14.
The Green Flag ‘Mystery Shoppers’ recognised Greenwood Park as:
“….an extremely good park, well managed by an enthusiastic and committed team of staff ….”
“Wood and meadow areas excellently maintained. The staff have a clear commitment to nature conservation ……”
Whilst our ground staff are responsible for the maintenance of the parks, the local community can play their part too – there are opportunities to become involved in the work in St Julian’s Wood, to help with the new landscape planting of the flower bed at the entrance to Greenwood Park and join in other activities such as hedge-laying.
In addition the public are encouraged to keep the parks clean and tidy, taking their rubbish home and clearing up after their dogs, and to report any problems to us so they can be dealt with promptly.
