I’ve lived in Bricket Wood for 30 years and have been on the Parish Council for the last 4. As a new Councillor, I received much help and guidance from more experienced Members. I believe community and traditional are important, which is why I’ve been involved in the organisation of village activities such as Remembrance Day, the Carol Concert, the Festival and Fete, Parish in Bloom etc., as well as serving on the Bricket Wood Common Committee. I’ve also joined the Planning Committee, to help fight over-development as it becomes an increasing issue.

Preserving our unique parish, improving its amenities and protecting the green belt from development were the reasons I became a parish councillor more than six years ago, and I hope to continue serving the community in this role. I’ve lived next to Bricket Wood Common for over 35 years, and have over 40 years experience as a structural surveyor. As such, I’ve taken a lead role in planning and development issues in the parish. This has included fighting developments which encroach into our treasured green space, like the Rail Freight Interchange in Park Street and the BRE development in Bricket Wood. I also sit on the Bricket Wood Common Joint Management Committee which works to protect and maintain this valuable rural space. At present I am the chairman of the Buildings Committee which has the responsibility for the maintenance and improvements of our parish-owned buildings and open spaces.

As a member of the Bricket Wood Residents’ Association I am keen to continue to foster the relationship between this association and the parish. I stand as an independent candidate as I believe the Parish Council exists to serve its residents and protect its future free of any political influence. I am honoured to have the opportunity to serve our Parish for another term.

After moving to London in the early eighties, I soon became a frequent visitor to Bricket Wood Common and the footpaths in the south of the district. My work in card-based payment systems, however, took me much further afield. After travelling extensively as a family we moved, in 1999, to the area that we had previously visited as an escape from London.

I was elected to St Albans District Council in 2004 and have served the people of Park Street and Bricket Wood as a ward councillor since then. I became an Independent in 2018, dismayed by the lack of consideration that the villages were being given by the political parties on the District Council.

As a newly elected Parish Councillor, I hope to help the council in its aims to protect and enhance local assets and services, shaping the area to meet housing and other development needs.
